Embark on a journey to become a racer!

Meeting the requirements to become a professional racer.

Becoming an Inboard Hydroplane racer is more accessible and affordable than one may assume. We operate as a close-knit community, offering support and guidance whenever needed.

In this piece, we will outline the overview of the straightforward process for becoming a qualified racer.

General Information Here

Step 1:

  •  To begin, you need to become a member of the American Power Boat Association and join a racing club such as the Marine Prop Riders.

  • Join us for our monthly gatherings held on the first Wednesday of each month.

  • Fill out the MPR Membership form from our resource page and mail it in.

Monthly Meetings

MPR meetings are commonly scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month in Warren Michigan at Simple Palate on Van Dyke.

Located at 27380 Van Dyke Avenue, Warren, Michigan 48093, United States

Step 2:

  • You must provide a physical examination report from your doctor and pass the "dunk-test". Trained divers will assist you in this test by securing you in a simulated hydroplane cockpit at the pool's edge and flipping you over.

  • Your objective is to remove the steering wheel, release your safety harness, exit the cockpit, and ascend to the surface. The aim is to teach you how to stay composed and follow the instructions accurately.

  • Once you have completed this, you can participate in an APBA event by piloting an inboard hydroplane.

Step 3:

  • As you acquire more experience, you will gradually engage in competitive races.

  • Initially, you will be given special guidance by the event referee and may conduct individual test laps.

  •  Once the referee deems you prepared, they will endorse your form, officially certifying you as a racer.
